Portrait of a man in front of a grey wall

Alexander Langholz-Baikousis

CFO & Operating Partner

Alexander joined Cherry in 2016 and is a Partner and the Chief Financial Officer of the firm. He is responsible for the firm's operations, provides management and oversight to all Cherry funds, and leads the firm's Strategic Resources team.

Prior to joining Cherry, Alexander spent several years in investment banking, mostly with Morgan Stanley, where he predominantly advised on IPOs (including Zalando).

Having grown up in Hamburg and Athens, Alex’s deep love for the ocean is no surprise. He even considered a career in shipping before he decided to dive into finance instead (lucky for us, as that path led him to Cherry). Alex holds a Master of Science in Finance and Accounting from EBS Business School.

How do you support founders?

As operating partner, I lead the strategic resources team, which is the direct counterpart to our investment team on specialist topics for Cherry and our founders. We cover communications, talent, finance, and legal, and are known to use our broad network of ecosystem partners to provide unrivaled experience, access, and advice for our founders.

As CFO, I also help our founders with setting a foundation for sustainable growth. We advise on topics like business plan forecasts, scenario planning, cash management providers, venture debt terms, acquisitions, and many other matters that are important to them.

What's your favourite Cherry memory?

As one of Cherry’s first employees, I have tons of great memories of building the firm. For me, it’s more about the total reflection than a particular moment. Seeing founders from companies like Amboss, Moss, bunch, flaschenpost, and many others come to us for initial meetings and now seeing them flourish, well, you can't beat that.

Also experiencing Cherry’s own entrepreneurial start – like many startups, we, too, were in coworking spaces and apartment buildings as we kicked off – and watching us grow into a 30+ person team across disciplines, across key European tech hubs, is something really special. I enjoy reflecting on all of that.
