We are excited to officially welcome back Carlo Schmid in his new role as principal.
Carlo first joined Cherry Ventures back in 2016. He was involved in various healthcare and fintech deals and helped open the Nordic market for Cherry. After three years, Carlo took a hiatus in 2019 to head stateside for his MBA at MIT’s Sloan School of Business, a degree he wrapped up this summer.
Carlo started his career in the finance industry at Bank of America Merrill Lynch before following his entrepreneurial passion. Carlo led his family’s healthcare business and started a B2C travel marketplace. While at business school, he also started a DTC beverage business that recently raised funding and continues to grow nicely.
“Living in the US has always been on my bucket list,” he says. “Once I was there, I got a good sense of the local startup and venture scene. Yet, one recurring theme that continuously popped up in conversations with fellow VCs and classmates was Europe and the potential of it and opportunities already here. That gave me a good sense of where the next big wave in venture will happen, and, from my past experience, I knew that Cherry was the best possible place to actively drive this development. The recent State of European Tech Report underlines this, as investments in Europe for 2021 will hit more than $120bn, nearly three times as much as last year. And I know the best is yet to come!”
At Cherry, Carlo will continue to leverage his network in healthcare and fintech to find the most promising ventures in these industries while also building out our efforts in sustainability and climate tech investing at the fund.
Based in Berlin, he will also continue to support our Nordic coverage with Sophia and Max.
