Founders first is more than a motto. It’s a mindset.

It’s a mindset that propels us to scout and back the best and boldest founders across industries in European tech. It’s a mindset that understands that investing at seed stage really means partnering for the long haul. And it’s a mindset that embraces the daily work with our portfolio that goes into achieving goals years away.

Each and every team member at Cherry Ventures — be it on our investment or strategic teams — truly embraces this. And we at Cherry Ventures are looking to expand our team.

We’re seeking experienced investors who share the same drive to support seed-stage founders in Europe as they bring their products to the global arena. At the same time, we’re also looking for investors who equally bring with them diverse ideas, perspectives, and backgrounds.

Working at Cherry means you’ll work directly with a close-knit, international team across investment and strategic functions, like communications, talent, and finance. Our way of working means you’ll also collaborate with the entrepreneurs who we back day-to-day.

And, as recent headlines reveal, our founders have been quite busy…

  • Take Cazoo. The UK’s top online car retailer acquired our portfolio company Drover and recently announced plans to list on the NYSE via AJAX I, a SPAC. The deal values the company at over $7bn.
  • Earlier this year, AUTO1 listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in one of the largest tech IPOs in Europe to date. We invested back in 2013, when Cherry was an angel fund.
  • Dr. Oetker, one of the world’s top food and beverage conglomerates, acquired portfolio company flaschenpost in one of the largest ever tech exits by a German startup late last year. Perhaps you saw the Hoff’s congratulations.
  • On an impact front, Infarm continues to emerge as a global leader in urban farming, having recently raised a total of $400m to continue further entering new markets and expanding into new food groups. The company was also featured on Fortune Magazine’s inaugural IMPACT20 list.
  • SellerX, which acquires and grows Amazon-native brands, has raised over €130m in capital and acquired 20 businesses in under six months.
  • And much, muchmore

Here’s a bit more on us and the role we’re looking to fill:

We are…

  • A driven, semi-distributed international team of 19 members spanning our home base in Berlin, London, Paris, and Stockholm.
  • Former founders, marketing directors, heads of product, brand managers, journalists, consultants, producers, law students, coaches, and more.
  • Proud backers of over 60 pan-European, cross-industry companies — such as FlixBus, Forto, Rows, Moss, and TWAICE — led by Europe’s top founders.
  • Fast and work with confidence, investing in ten companies per year in order to be available for the companies we already partner with.

We’re seeking investors who are…

  • Experienced: Must have substantial prior investment experience — be it as an angel investor or from another fund — and can hit the ground running ready to source and finalize deals. If you bring a background or interests in other or tangential fields, all the better.
  • Prepared: Act with a prepared mind that enables the team and the founders we work with to stay ahead of the curve.
  • Bold: Understand making an impact requires being courageous enough to make big decisions and navigate uncharted territories, often in short windows of time.
  • Approachable: Build meaningful relationships — even in virtual settings — and speak openly and honestly to make sure those they work with and partner alongside succeed through highs and lows.
  • Open-minded: Understand a diversity of experiences and backgrounds are key to fostering fresh ideas and innovation and hold an insatiable curiosity into new industries, emerging markets, technologies, and business models.
  • And, lastly, founders first: Invest in people first, support their vision, and help them build a successful and sustainable business.

The role involves…

  • Sourcing, researching, and investing in the best early-stage companies and founders in Europe.
  • Developing and building investment theses and industry insights.
  • Bringing in functional, entrepreneurial, and industry knowledge to provide sparring and value to our portfolio.
  • Building and maintaining networks with relevant and top investors to source investments and secure follow-ons.
  • Building a world class early-stage venture capital fund by taking on responsibility for various initiatives. These can range from representing the brand at high profile events or in the ecosystem, to developing content or hosting meet-ups, to building internal tools and infrastructure support. .
